Project history

Blohm & Voss A-200SAN (Valour class) forships of programme Sitron was selected in 1998 and ordered in 1999. Option for building of a fifth unit was not exercised. 27x15m platform and 17x6x5m hangar can accommodate two Super Lynx helicopters but frigates carry only one. CODAG WARP mines 'COmbined Diesel And Gas turbine - Waterjet And Refined Propellers. Diesels are cross-connected and both propellers can be driven by one diesel on 20kts. Ships have not funnels, gas turbine and diesels exhaust out the stern.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Amatola in August 2010 suffered engine damage as a result of the ingress of water trough the exhaust system and was under repair till 2012.
