Project history

Former Swedish Type A 17 attack submarines. All TT are bow-mounted, with the six 533mm tubes above the three 400mm tubes. Can carry up to 22 mines in externally-mounted containers. Plans to equip these boats with four SSM vertical launch rubes in the sail have been abandoned. Anechoic hull coating. Purchased from Sweden just after decommissioned but commissioned by Singaporean Navy in 16.6.2009 (Archer) and 20.10.2010 (Swordsman) after refit and modernization included installing AIP system in the additional 12m hull section, installing of new Subac sonar and replacing an CCS by new. Both submarines arrived to Singapore 17.8.2011.
