Project 641 1979

Project history

This was the large-submarine analog to Project 633, designed from the outset to snorkel. It had the same sonar suit as Project 633, with the new Leningrad-641 torpedo FCS. Compared to Project 611, Project 641 could dive deeper (250m, maximum 280m) and had greater range.

Modernizations

1967, B-103: + MVU-110 Uzel CCS

1970s, many: - Flag radar; + RLK-101 Albatros radar

1970s, B-101: + wake detector

Naval service

B-37 was lost 11.1.1962 at Poliarnyy after own torpedo explosion. B-164 was severely damaged during training diving in Japanese Sea in JUne 1989, her repair was never completed. B-33 was foundered at pier in Ulyss Bight (Vladivostok) due to negligence of her crew, she was salvaged in summer and stricken. B-435 was transferred to Ukraine in July 1997 and lost battle value in 2000s. 22.3.2014 she raised Russian flag. In March 2014 submarine was offered by Russia back to Ukraine with no pay but Ukraine refused the deal and now submarine is stored afloat at Sevastopol.
