Built of wood and aluminium, they were designed for harbour patrol and ASW training.

Naval service

Blue Heron was transferred to the Marine Section of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1956, and the remaining three were paid off in 1963 (PCS781) and 1965 (PCS780, 783).
