Project history

120-guns three-deckers. Designed by Sir William Rule in 1797. The successful prototype for all later British 1st rate sailing ships. Royal George was built to the draught of Caledonia but doubled with fir while building to make her breadth and ordnance capacity similar to subsequent Broadened Caledonia class ships.

1830,Caledonia: rebuilt with circular stern: 62.6m gundeck length, 2712bm tonnage
