Project history

Launched as units two and three of the Oquendo class (above) bul completed at Cartagena to an enlarged and modernized design; they were relaunched after hulks were lengthened and widened. Full US weapon and electronic fit, and generally to USN Gearing class FRAM II standards.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Marqués de la Ensenada was repaired after terrorist bomb attack on 2 October 1981, parts being taken from Roger de Lauria. Speed was reduced by recurrent boiler problems.
