Ship project history: Destroyers of Alsedo class were built according to the law from 17/2/1915 and structurally were similarity of British destroyers of Lightfoot class from the First World War beginning (differing mainly by presence of geared turbines instead of direct drive), but in connection with building protraction they became outdated already by the commission moment. On trials all three ships made 33000hp, reaching 37kts speed. They differed by big rolling excursion.

Modernizations: 1938, Velasco: + 1 x 1 - 20/70 Scotti-Isotta-Fraschini 1939

1939, Velasco; 1/1940-12/1943, Alsedo, Lazaga: - 3 x 1 - 102/45, 2 x 1 - 47/50; + 3 x 1 - 102/50 Vickers Mk E, 3 x 1 - 20/65 C/38, 2 DCT; fore superstructure was rebuilt, pole fore mast was replaced by tripod.

Naval service: After the beginning of Civil war Alsedo and Lazaga remained under Republic control. 9/8/1936 on Alsedo at Tangiers captain, sympathising to Nationalists, arranged accident of turbines: ship was repaired at Malaga, and then at Cartagena till August, 1938. Since January, 1939 because of bad boilers condition both destroyers were under repair at Cartagena before the war termination, Lazaga extra was damaged there by aircraft 5/3/1939.
Velasco
was in July, 1936 under repair at El Ferrol. She was commissioned by Nationalists 12/8/1936.
