Project history

Ordered under the law from 11.1.1936 mainly for SECN stuffing; under the design they were practically identical to Almirante Antequera class, differing by only quadruple TT mounts. Prior to the beginning of Civil war materials for both ships were only prepared, in September, 1939 works were renewed, however 26.1.1940 suspended in view of obvious outdating of project. Again the building of these destroyers was authorized 22.5.1943 and 24.1.1944 respectively, originally to sell this pair to Argentina, after abandoning of Argentineans in 1944 from their acquisition they were built for Spanish Navy on the sample of Almirante Antequera. They were completed only in the early fifties, being already archaic.

Modernizations

(1960-1/1962), Álava; (1960-9/1962), Liniers: were drastically reconstructed to ASW ships with data as given in the table.

Naval service

Liniers since 1960s was used for training at Naval Academy.
