Project history

Specially intended for service on China rivers, built under the 1896-1897 programme. Sumida has been built in Britain and assembled in Japan from ready sections in 10.1903-4/1906.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Based at Shanghai and served till 1935, then had been handed over on demolition.
