Project history

A simplified version of the Type 053H1 put back into production after the first four Type 053H2 frigates, probably as an inexpensive way to maintain order of battle. They are visually distinguishable by the “mack”-type stack, which has the long-range air-search radar antenna mounted on its forward edge.
