Project history

Was chartered 14.10.1991 for one year, with an option to purchase, from Rieber Shipping, Norway, and purchased outright on 24.1.1992. The ship serves as Antarctic Territories patrol ship to guarantee the continuation of British sovereignty over the Falkland, South Georgia, and South Shetland Islands in the Antarctic Atlantic, where the ship also performs hydrographic survey duties. Able to break 0.9m ice at 3kts. Helicopter hangar is below the flight deck.

Modernizations

Naval service

In December 2008 Endurance suffered extensive flooding while operating off the Chilean coast. The vessel was nearly lost, and successful damage control efforts alllowed her to be towed back to UK aboard a heavy-lift ship. Endurance was laid up and replaced in service by new patrol ship, Protector. In 2013 it was decided to scrap the ship, in July 2015 she was offered for sale and in 2016 towed off to Turkey for BU.
