Project history

These ships were originally intended as fleet anti-submarine escorts with alternately arranged two boiler and two engine rooms. It was originally planned to arm these ships with 3 twin 102mm DP mounts and 50 - 150 DCs but latter and one twin mount ("B" on Battleaxe and Broadsword or "Y" on Crossbow and Scorpion) were replaced by 2 Squids. Scott's Claymore, Dirk, Grenade, Halberd, Poniard, White's Musket were never really laid down.

Modernizations

1958 - 1959, all 4 completed ships were converted to radar pickets, as given in the table.

Naval service

Battleaxe was badly damaged 1.8.1962 in collision with frigate Ursa and laid up. Rest ships were laid up in 1964 - 1966.
