Two destroyers were laid down by Palmer of Jarrow in September 1905 on speculation and completed in 1907. They were then bought in March 1909 as 'stock' boats to replace Tiger and Lee. They were in general similar to the standard 30-knotters, with turtleleback forecastles, but had a more powerful armament of 3 12pdr, and had turbines. Listed as 'B' class from 1 October 1913.
