Aircraft facilities

Landplanes were stowed in forward hangar, launched from fwd deck and land ashore. Seaplanes were stowed in the aft hangar, fly-off from the water and returned by derricks.

Project history

The Nairana had been ordered for Huddart Parker in January 1914 but had been suspended after being launched to clear the slipway in 1915. Requisitioned 27 February 1917 for completion as a carrier by the builders. She was similar to the 1915 conversions but incorporated many wartime improvements. Landplanes were accommodated forward, seaplanes aft. Three main workshops were installed, and a 29m flying-off platform.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

No significant events.
