Project history

Slightly smaller editions of the 'Brave' class, ordered in 1968 to serve as targets. The design permits installation of a third Proteus turbine and a light armament of missiles or guns if needed for the operational role, but they proved extremely useful simulating attacks by fast missile craft.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

In 1979 Scimitar was sent to Hong Kong, and in July 1980 Sabre lost her bow in a collision with a breakwater at Alderney. They were placed in storage ashore in 1981.
