Project history

A series of 8 boats was built by order of Turkey, but confiscated by Admiralty. 5 boats were rebuilt  as blockade-runners for export of nickel ore from ports of Sweden and served under a merchant flag. Only MGB502, 503 and 509 were completed as MGBs.

Modernizations

1942-1943, most: + type 286PU radar

1943-1944, most survived: - type 286PU radar; + type 291U or type 293 radar

1944, MGB504, 505, 507: were armed as other MGBs.

1945, MGB2009: was re-engined. 1 Packard petrol engine on center shaft was replaced by Gatric gas turbine. Engine power was 5200hp summary and maximal speed rose up to 34kts. Armament was removed.
