Project history

Type A 26, successors of previous Swedish-Nrwegian-Danish 'Viking', NGU ('Nästa Generation Ubåt - New Generation Submarine) and S2000 programmes. Replacement for two survived Västergötland class submarines. Authorized 16.6.2010, first two submarines ordered 30.6.2015. Hull lines were designed to maximally decrease of noise level, hull is coated with anechoic coating, all propulsive machinery is installed on elastic rafts. Stern planes are installed in X-form. AIP system of new Sterling Mk 3 model ensures 18 days of 6kts cruising in submerged position. 1.5m in diameter and 6m long Multimission Portal will provide use of USVs, combat swimmers and their armament, minelaying.
