Project history

Project 699 was an improved version of Project 257, built in small numbers, powered by two 2500bhp diesels rather than 1200bhp lightweight high-speed diesels of the Project 257. They made it possible for the ship to tow heavier sweeps such as barge-sweeps (as against pressure mines) and twin bottom contact sweeps.
