Project history

First Soviet serial built MTBs, designed by TsAGI under guidance of A. N. Tupolev. Dural stepped hull, by form reminding float of a seaplane; torpedoes were launched from chutes astern. Sh-4 class MTBs differed by high speed (up to 50.5 kts on trials), but low seaworthiness, small endurance and weak defensive armament.

Modernizations

late 1930s, all survived: - 1 x 1 - 7.7/87; + 1 x 2 - 7.6/94

1941, some boats: - 1 x 2 - 7.6/94; + 1 x 1 - 12.7/79

Naval service

No significant events.
