Project 1204

Project history

Work on river craft reviewed about 1965, presumably in response to the growing tension between the Soviet Union and China, eg on the Amur River. TsKB-5 (now Almaz) developed a new Project 1204. The lead boat was completed in Kerch in 1967. Project 1204 craft could embark a battalion of naval infantry, although they would have to be billeted aborder another ship.

Ship protection

Citadel and turret were protected by splinter-proof armour.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

In 2015 four craft served at Caspian.
