Project history

Class of two OPVs was ordered in 2004 as part of Protector program to replace two 'broad-beam Leander' class frigates Wellington and Canterbury. Enhanced design of Irish Eithne class. Built under merchant standards. Ice-strengthened. Each has 2 7.75m fast RIBs.
