Project history

Patrol ship and yacht of the governor-general of the East Indies. The design was developed on the basis of minelayer Krakatau. Rigel was reclassified to minelayer 15.10.1939.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Rigel was scuttled at Batavia 2.3.1942. She was lifted by Japanese in March, 1944 and put into repair, in 1945 she was returned to the Netherlands, but never commissioned again. In 1951, still being on repair at Surabaya, ship was transferred to Indonesia and renamed Dewakambar; in Naval Forces of Indonesia it was planed to convert her to survey vessel, however the further fate of the ship is unknown (probably, she was never repaired).
