Project history

Rather successful coastal minelayers, served as prototypes for several series of the ships of the given type built for service in mother country waters and in the East Indies. They were projected on the basis of ferries and, despite the small dimensions, were equipped with covered mine deck. They have appeared inexpensive and simple in operation, and low speed was considered sufficient for actions in inshore waters.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Hydra was damaged 15.5.1940 by German anti-tank artillery and ran aground. Medusa since 31.7.1940 till 15.1.1946 served under British flag and later converted to minesweeper tender. She was stricken 5.6.1964 and sold on demolition 25.9.1964.
