Project history

Former USN Gearing class destroyers, converted to radar picket in 1949 and subsequently modernized under the FRAM II programme in 1960s. Hangar and flight deck, previously for DASH drone, were later converted to carry Alouette III helicopter. Purchased outright 31.1.1977.

1976, Chungbuk: + 1 x 3 - 20/76 Sea Vulcan

1976, Jeonbuk: + 1 x 2 - 30/75 Emerlec-30

1979, both: + 2 x 4 Harpoon SSM (8 RGM-84), Alouette III helicopter (hangar and flight deck were widened and strengthened)

1986, both: - ULQ-6 ECM: + T-Mk 6 Fanfare torpedo decoy
