Project history

River gunboats of Atami class were intended for service on Chinese rivers. Ships had  similar characteristics and outwardly resembled predeccessors. Built under the 1923 programme.

Modernizations

1940, both: - 1 x 1 - 76/23, 1 x 1 - 13.2/76, 5 x 1 - 7.7/80; + 1 x 1 - 76/40 11-shiki, 5 x 1 - 25/60 96-shiki

1945, both: disarmed

Naval service

In 1945 both gunboats transferred their guns to coastal batteries.

In 1945 China received Atami and Futami.
