Project history

Designed in 1934 for service in colonies, differed by original machinery, including, besides main diesels, auxiliary diesel-electric plant. Electric motors were installed on main shafts, work of both main diesels and electric motors simultaneously was possible. Greatest endurance was ensured under electric motors, under main diesels it made 5000(15.3)nm, under both diesels and electric motors 6120(13.3)nm. The maximum speed under diesels was 18kts, under electric motors 12kts, and under both diesels and electric motors 20kts.

Building of the second ship of this class (it was supposed to call her Etiopia) was planned.
