Project history

Ordered in 1989 from a consortium led by Blohm + Voss, with Thyssen Nordseewerke and Howaldtswerke. Employ Blohm + Voss MEKO modular outfitting concepts, with extremely strong hull structure having six double-walled bulkheads, two internal 1.2m-square box girders at the outer edge of the upper deck over 80% of the hull length, and a centerline 1.5×0.6m box girder for strength. Have extensive signature-reduction measures, with a radar cross section only 10% as large as that of the preceding Type 122. Have 230t displacement growth margin. The vertical-launch SAM module forward is arranged so that the number of launch cells can be doubled at a later date. The 76mm gun can also be controlled by the target-designation sights mounted on the bridge wings.

Modernizations

2002, all: - 2 x 1 - 20/90, SATIR-III CCS; + 2 x 1 - 27/64 MLG-27, TMS system (upgrade for WM-25 radar), TAÜ torpedo decoy launcher, SATIR-2000 CCS

2006-2009, all: - DSQS-23BZ sonar; + DSQS-24B sonar

2007-2008, all: - 2x SCLAR decoy RL; + 2x MASS decoy RL

2015-2016, all: - SATIR-2000 CCS; + SABRINA CCS

planned, all: - 1 x 16 Sea Sparrow SAM; + 1 x 16 ESSM SAM (VLS, 64 RIM-162), DSQS-30A LFTASS ASO-92 sonar
