Project history

With this enlarged version of the Jagd, the aviso was developing into a light cruiser. This 1893 design had a 25-20mm armoured deck and a very pronounced ram bow. She was considered a good seaboat, and served for two years abroad, as well as with the home fleet.

Ship protection

There was protective deck with 30mm flat and 25mm slopes, engine glacis had 100mm armour on 180mm wooden backing. CT had 30mm sides.

Modernizations

1905: boilers were replaced by 8 Marine, funnel was replaced by two; - 2 x 1 - 88/27, 2 x 1 - 450 TT; + 2 - 450 TT (beam)

Naval service

From 1910 she was used as a fleet tender. In 1914 she was used for patrol duty, and was torpedoed by the British submarine E9 in the North Sea 13.9.1914.
