Project history

Ordered on 31.1.1895, to a design by the builders (an improved Tourmente). Named after the engineer who died in the Sarrazin accident, Mangini was one of the better TBs of this period and enjoyed a long and active service. Maximum trials speed was 26.62kts, but she remained capable of 24kts for most of her career and in 1900 averaged 18kts for 24 hours.
