Project history

A wooden-hulled cruiser with ship rig, overhanging bow and stern, and short forecastle and poop. The funnel was abaft the mainmast. The 165mm were in embrasure ports under the forecastle with 2 139mm similarly under the poop, 4 on the upper deck and 12 on the main deck broadside.

Naval service

Iphigénie later served, with a reduced armament, as a seagoing TS for midshipmen.
