Project history

90-gun two-deckers, intended to replace 74-gunners as the standard ship of the line in the French Navy. Ajax and Diomède were cancelled in 1828. Argonaut was cancelled in December 1838. Wooden hull.

Modernizations

1857, Donawerth; 1858, Saint Louis: were converted to screw ships with data as given in the table

Naval service

Henry IV was blown ashore and lost 14.11.1854 in a storm at Eupatoria (Crimea).
