Project history

Development of Jemmapes class, differing by extension of forecastle deck to mainmast.

Ship protection

Main belt was 450mm amidships, 300mm forward and 400mm aft, tapering everywhere to 250mm at lower edge. Turrets had 450mm sides and 70mm crowns. Very heavy curved main deck laid over 10mm plating and was 110-70mm amidships, 90mm fwd and 70mm aft. Ships had different appearance: Amiral Tréhouart had one funnel and Bouvines had two.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

In days of WWI both were based at Cherbourg and used as depot ships, did not participating in naval operations.
