Project history
Replacement for the type 091, designed with active Russian assistance. Initially it was planned to limit number of ships in class by 3 in favor of newest type 095, but later it was decided to increase class to 8, including VLS-carrying type 093B. Double-hulled, hull is covered by anechoic tiles. Majority of sources report that type 093A and 093B submarines are equivalent to Improved Los Angeles by noise level or quieter.
