The final development of the original St. Laurent ordered in 1959 incorporated all the improvements approved for the earlier ships, particularly the Sea King helicopter deck and hangar. Because of the extra topweight the lighter USN-pattern 76mm/50 Mk 33 was reintroduced in place of the British-pattern Mk 6.
