Project history

Ita-class cargo-passenger vessels were built for National Costaleira, in 1931 were commissioned by Navy as avisos (VTE were replaced by diesels). They were renamed in December, 1932 and since summer, 1933 were transferred to lighthouse service. During WWII all three ships were used as troop transports.

Naval service

Vital de Oliveira was sunk by German submarine U861 off port Salvador.
