Project history

Small wooden-hulled river monitors built during Paraguayan war.

Ship protection

Complete wrought iron belt was 0.9m high and was 102mm amidships, tapered to 76-51mm at ship ends. Curved upper deck was 13mm thick.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Santa Catharina foundered at her moorings in 1882 due to the poor hull condition while she was under repair.
