Ship project history: Small cruiser Geier was interned at Honolulu 7/11/1914, captured by USN 6/4/1917, renamed Schurz in June 1917, commissioned in Septenber 1917.

Naval service: Schurz sunk 21/6/1918 after collision with s/s Florida off North Carolina coast.
