Project history

Cutters of this class were intended for intercept rum runners during Prohibition. For this purpose they have appeared are of little use because of low speed.

Modernizations

1941, all: + 2 DCR

1942 - 1943, all: + 2 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 4, 2 x 4 - 178 Mousetrap Mk 20 ASWRL

1943 - 1944, many: - 1 x 1 - 76/23; + 1 x 1 - 40/56 Mk 1.2, SO radar

1/1946: 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3, 2 x 1 - 20/70 Mk 10, 2 x 4 - 178 Mousetrap Mk 20 ASWRL, 2 DCR

1960, all survived: were armed with 1 x 1 - 40/60 Mk 3 only, presumably SPN-11 radar

Naval service

Antietam and Jackson were lost 14.9.1944 at Cape Gatteras during a storm.
