Project history

Wooden-hulled 2nd class despatch/gunvessels, design was approved in 1855. Enlarged Arrow class. Four more units were ordered but never built. Most were rerated as sloops in 1859-1860 but all were reverted to gunvessels in 1862.

Modernizations

None.

Naval service

Osprey wrecked in the SE African coast near Klippen Point 30.5.1867. Cormorant was sunk in action with the Taku forts in Peiho River (China) 28.6.1859.
