Project history

Wooden-hulled 1st class gunvessel, John Fincham design, approved in 1845. Similar to iron-hulled Sharpshooter. Rerated as 3rd class sloop in 1854. Sepoy and Cossack were also ordered in 1846 but cancelled in 1849.

1848: re-engined with 1 2-cyl VSE, oscillating, geared (188ihp, 8kts)
