Project history

First 3 ships of Batch 1 were ordered 1.7.2017, first steel for Glasgow was cut 20.7.2017. Replacement for type 23 (Norfolk class). Programme had many names: FSC (Future Surface Combatant), VSC (Versatile Surface Combatant), Pathfinder, S2C2 (Sustained Surface Combatant Capability) and finally GCS (Global Combat Ship). Fin stabilizers. There are hangar for one Merlin or two Wildcat helicopters and a small hangar for UAVs. 4 fast 9m RIBs can be launched via stern ramp. Installation of 155mm gun instead of 127mm is planned. Accommodations for 208 people are envisaged. 5 ships of Batch 2 will be built under modified design as type 31.
