Project history

Wooden-hulled 21-gun open battery corvettes. Surveyor's Department design, approved in 1858. Referred to as 'troop frigates', all were ship-rigged, with telescoping funnels. Galatea was also ordered to this design but was reordered in 1856 as wooden screw frigate.
