Project history

An unsuccessful attempt to adapt an RAF air-sea rescue design, the Seal type, these craft have proved unstable and suffer badly from vibration. Following problems with Kingfisher, the later craft were given a lighter mast and had no scuttles. Redpole was completed as RAF SAR craft Sea Otter and transferred to RN in 1984.

Naval service

Peterel and Sandpiper were immediately relegated to RNR training tenders and P259-261 were disarmed for service as inshore surveying craft.
