They were all US Gato, Balao and Tench class submarines. The ones transferred in 1948 were more or less unmodified, but Çanakkale and subsequent boats were semi- or fully streamlined, and most of them were brought up to the fully streamlined 'Fleet Snorkel' standard eventually. Cerbe was unique Turkish GUPPY IIA boat with original stepped sail.

Dumlupınar was lost accidently in the Dardanelles on 4 April 1953. Second Dumlupınar was badly damaged in a collision 1.9.1976 and had to be beached. She was eventually repaired and put back into service.
