Project history

First Swedish capital ship with only quick fire artillery.

Protection

Belt protected amidships part between fore end of fore barbette and aft end of aft barbette and was 200mm-thick abreast machinery and 140mm abreast barbettes, it was 1.48m-high. Main deck was connected by its lower end by slopes, this deck was turtleback form outside citadel.

Modernizations

(1917-18): - 2 x 1 - 57/50; + 2 x 1 - 57/50 K/55 M1889B AA.

(1927-1928, Bergsund): ship was converted to seaplane carrier, all armament was removed, a raised platform for aircraft storage and maintenance was built aft. Ship had not a catapult, seaplanes had to start from a water. Technical data was as given in the table.

1940: + 2 x 1 - 25/55 K/58 M1932

1944: - 2 x 1 - 25/55, 1 x 2 - 8.80, 2 x 1 - 8.90; + 2 x 1 - 40/56 K/60 M1932

Naval service

Dristigheten was stricken in 1947 but used as target until 1961.
