Project history

British 'Ton' class, 8 were transferred from RN in 1955-1959 and two were built for SAN in Britain.

Modernizations

1979, Kimberley; 1980, Port Elizabeth as minehunters: - type 978 radar, LL minesweeping gear; + 2 PAP-104 USV, type 1006 radar, type 193M sonar

Naval service

Kaapstad and Pretoria were employed on patrol duties since 1973 and classified as patrol minesweepers.
