This is pr. 667BD with a higher hump to accommodate the new R-29R missile (the 'R' in the project number). The externally-framed pressure hull is 9.8m in diameter, ie, about the same diameter as the separate pressure hulls in Project 941. The sonar suit, Rubikon, roughly matches that of a pr. 67. Like the attack submarine, this one has a cylindrical array in the forward part of the sail.
2002, BS-136: under Project 09786: - all armament, MGK-400 Rubikon sonar; + Gneys-09787 sonar suite, bow- and stern thrusters, additional living and technical spaces instead of missile compartments, ability to carry Project 10831 or Project 18551 special purpose mini submarine; length oa became 173.0m, displacement 11600 / 15100t
