Four were ordered in 1997 for use with Rotterdam (L 800), with an option for the fifth later taken up. Originally were to have had hulls built in Romania, but the hulls were instead built at Eoermond and fitted out at Den Helder. Visser is a subsidiary of the Damen group. Assigned directly to the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. Unusually deep 4.4m molded depth to hull, which has vehicle ramps fore and aft. Can also carry one beach armored recovery vehicle (BARV). Ballast tanks aft are used to alter the hull trim for beaching. The propellers are mounted fore and aft. Electric power is taken from one of the main generators, and there is also a Perkins diesel-powered emergency set. The articulating radar mast is raised or lowered pneumatically.
