Planned by the Direction of La Spezia R Naval Yd, an experimental type projected for re-using the Schichau-built machinery of the discarded 110S and 111S torpedo-boats (both launched in 1888). But this economy did not give good results; and, as the armament was weaker than in the Pegasos (only two small guns; the calibre of the TT lowered to 350mm from the 450mm of contemporary boats), this prototype was not repeated, even though Gabbiano gave reliable service.
