Project history

Large submarines which could had best battle characteristics in the world. Streamlined hull and CT with 30mm MGs in streamlined cupolas copied XXI series design. Tanks with Walter fuel were placed under pressure hull. U796 and 797 were ordered 4.1.1943 for Deutsche Werke but 14.12.1943 order was transferred to Germaniawerft and 28.3.1944 cancelled with XXVI series in favor of XXI series submarines.
